Garden Renovation Cost Calculator UK
Planning changes to your garden? Describe the size, work you want done, access and site conditions in ConstructAgent's existing Garden Renovation estimator. It gives an early indicative cost range and project plan, not a contractor quotation or site survey.
Calculate my garden renovation cost. Step 1 remains unselected so you can choose the work that actually applies. No sign-up required to get your estimate.
How the garden renovation calculator works
- Choose one or more improvements you want to make; nothing is preselected.
- Give your postcode, select a garden-size band or enter both length and width, and describe its current condition.
- Add levels, access, preferred garden style, budget and timing.
- Review an early indicative range and project plan with work packages, likely trades, a work sequence and an indicative timeline.
What affects garden renovation cost?
The selected work packages and garden size set the main allowance. Some packages, such as lawn, levelling, drainage, patio, paths, planting and driveway or parking area, use a proportion of garden area; a full makeover, fence or gate, and outdoor lighting are modelled as whole-project packages. This is an internal planning model, not a UK-wide price average.
The estimator also considers selected existing conditions such as overgrowth, old paving, uneven or muddy ground, plus slopes or water collecting in low areas and restricted, narrow, side or through-house access. These can add preparation and handling complexity. Preferred garden style may adjust the range modestly; postcode, stated budget and timing do not directly set the price. A budget answer may affect the confidence label if it is uncertain.
What can a garden renovation include?
Step 1 supports Full garden makeover, New lawn, Garden levelling, Drainage improvements, New fence or gate, Patio or seating area, Paths, Raised beds, Decorative planting, Outdoor lighting, Driveway or parking area, and I'm not sure. Select the combination that reflects your own plans. The calculator does not ask for a detailed surface specification or design every element of the work.
Ground levels, slope and preparation
Levelling, excavation and site clearance can change the work required before paving, a lawn or planting can begin. The wizard asks whether the garden is flat, sloping, uneven, retains a wall or has low areas where water collects. It also asks whether the existing ground is overgrown, muddy, paved or uneven. These answers help adjust an early allowance but cannot reveal hidden ground conditions or determine construction depth.
Access and drainage
A narrow route or access through the house can make it harder to move materials and waste, affecting labour and project planning. Poor drainage or pooling may add preparation complexity. Selecting Drainage improvements as a Step 1 work package models actual drainage installation; a wet-ground answer alone does not choose a drainage system. Not every garden needs the same solution, and the tool cannot check a final drainage design or compliance.
Example only: a garden renovation
Imagine choosing New lawn, Garden levelling and Patio or seating area for a 50–150 m² garden with an overgrown existing condition, a slight slope, narrow access and a low-maintenance style. These are compatible answers in the existing wizard, not a real project or price example. The selected work, area and site conditions would inform an indicative planning range; enter your own details to see a result.
What does the estimate include?
The result shows an early cost range and confidence label, a breakdown by selected work package, likely trades, a recommended work sequence, an indicative timeline, the main cost drivers and an editable summary of your answers. It is not a detailed materials takeoff, a fixed construction specification or a contractor quotation. Exact area requires both length and width; if only one is entered, the calculator does not calculate an exact area from it.
Why an early estimate is useful
An early range can help you judge the scale of the work, compare possible combinations of improvements, prepare a budget and explain your plans to a contractor. A professional can assess the site and provide a written quotation based on agreed materials and design.
Common questions about garden renovation
How much does a garden renovation cost in the UK?
There is no single price for every garden. Size, chosen work and site conditions vary. Use your own answers for an early range and request a contractor quotation for a final price.
What makes a garden renovation expensive?
More work packages and larger areas increase the modelled scope. Difficult ground, restricted access, slopes and drainage-related work can also affect the early range.
Does sloping ground increase the scope of work?
It can. A slight or steep slope may mean more preparation, but the appropriate construction approach needs a site assessment.
Does restricted access affect garden renovation cost?
It can add handling time for materials and waste. Describe the actual access route in the estimator.
Does drainage need to be considered?
Pooling or muddy ground is useful context, but drainage installation is a separately selectable work package. A contractor should check whether any drainage work is needed.
How accurate is an online garden renovation calculator?
It is an early planning estimate based on broad package and site assumptions, not a surveyed specification or guaranteed price.
